Health and Wellbeing

Children at Little Scholars Day Nursery are introduced to the concepts of health, hygiene and safety along with the importance of diet, rest, sleep and exercise.

Food for Thought

Here at Little Scholars we love having our nursery full of happy, healthy children bursting with energy and vitality and we believe that the quality of food we serve has an essential part to play. We are committed to serving healthy, balanced and nutritious foods that give your child all of the energy they need for a busy day of play, learning and development. Our nursery menus are carefully planned and freshly prepared by our cook, in consultation with the appropriate nutritional guidelines and offer children opportunities to experience different foods and develop healthy eating patterns. We use local suppliers ensuring fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and meats are always on the menu. In addition to a balanced lunch, our children are also offered a morning and afternoon snack; weekly menus are displayed in the reception area.

We make every effort to make mealtimes fun and an opportunity to learn key skills and food etiquette – setting the table, serving themselves, sharing conversation and clearing away afterwards. If your child has any special dietary needs based on medical/allergy conditions, religious, or cultural requirements, just let us know and we will be happy to discuss this with you and cater for your child’s needs.

Outdoor Fun

Outside Play is an extension of the nursery playrooms, providing a healthy, safe and stimulating environment for each child. The outdoors offers endless opportunities to explore and investigate the nurseries natural surroundings. The nursery has a large safe and secure garden with a wide range of equipment such as a wooden pirate ship, climbing frame with chute, a wooden play house, swings and sandpit and mud kitchen. The children can play with sand and water, as well as the many other activities which can be transferred from inside to outside. The children have daily access to our outdoor classroom both on the large grassy areas and attached to each room is their own individual sheltered decking area.

Sleep / Rest

Each play room offers a cosy and comfortable area where children have the space to take some quite time away from the group if required. Cots and sleep beds are available for any child who requires a sleep throughout their busy day. Our youngest babies are also offered the opportunity to sleep outdoors on the covered decking area attached to their room, promoting a healthy, natural sleep environment.

Working together to inspire our children to excel in everything they do, to become confident, respected and valued members of our nursery, our community and our environment. To prepare children for life long success.
